The news broke months after WhatsApp had been seen internally testing the function. However, there’s no word yet on when the feature will be made accessible to end-users by the instant messaging software. It is possible to secure your WhatsApp chat content from third parties by activating end-to-end encrypted backups. This includes Google and Apple, which provide cloud storage for backups. End-to-end encryption, according to WhatsApp, means that not even the company’s engineers can access the content of the backups.
